Weaving for Peace

Enjoy the short clips of me working with fiber and at the loom.

Weaving is an ancient, repetitive process for creating textiles that requires untold hours of sitting on the weavers bench; both hands and both feet, moving rhythmically, non stop. So, body, speech and mind are engaged. Very good for one’s patience as well!

Along with the process of throwing the shuttle and operating the loom, there is a great deal of knotting involved. 300 knots secure the new warp to the previous one. Broken threads need be knotted, and the fringe on each of my pieces is knotted by hand, 200 per piece.

I decided to weave in my retail shop, to use my life actively engaged in
Buddhist practice (nothing lofty, simple mantra repetition) while creating one of a kind pieces women could wear and enjoy.

This way I could support myself while doing what I perceive to be something worthwhile: gathering merit through mantra, to offer, for the benefit of all beings.

Then there is the process of choosing colors, with nature as the inspiration, and designing the warp, to create unique and pleasing combinations that look beautiful and feel good to wear.

After many years of weaving in public, it is time to retreat to my home studio, creating fewer pieces while I am still able to do so, and to offer my collection online.

I look forward to shipping far and wide, sharing the energy of creation and peace.
